Differences Between 2019 Honda Accord & 2019 Toyota Camry

Serving Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, and Florence, KY

The 2019 Honda Accord battles the 2019 Toyota Camry in the mid-size sedan class. Both vehicles are available with hybrid systems and other fuel-saving features. Offering a turbocharged engine and 10-speed automatic transmission, the Accord beats the Camry in performance and handling. This Honda also has a handful of better mobile-friendly features, such as the HondaLink, Android Auto and Wi-Fi.

Performance

A four-cylinder engine block with the 2.0T label is available in the 2019 Accord. This compact turbocharged powertrain delivers just under 255 horsepower and over 270 pound-feet of peak torque. Also having an I-4 design, the 2019 Camry's Dynamic Force engine has a much larger displacement of 2.5 L. This naturally aspirated engine can't produce more than 206 hp and 186 lb-ft. The patented i-VTEC valve train is integrated into the Accord's 2.0T engine. Similarly, the Camry's Dynamic Force engine has a valvetrain with the signature Dual VVT-i technology. The Accord's hybrid powertrain offers a peak output of 212 hp. You can set the hybrid system to run on the ECON, Sport and EV modes. The Camry's hybrid system has a lower maximum output and less custom driving modes. A lithium-ion battery is standard in both hybrid models. Additionally, a sealed nickel-metal hydride battery is available in this Toyota.

Handling

The 2019 Accord offers a continuously variable transmission system that has no limits on gear ratios. You can select the Sport Mode for this highly adaptive CVT. Select trims come standard with an automatic transmission system that has 10 speeds in the gearbox. With some leverage from paddle shifters and shift-by-wire, you'll easily change gears in this responsive transmission. You only have access to eight gears in the Camry's Direct Shift automatic transmission. An electronic continuously variable transmission is standard in the Accord and Camry hybrid models. Deceleration selectors and the Sport Mode improve the performance of this Honda's E-CVT. The Sequential Shift Mode is integrated into this Toyota's ECVT. Installed only in the Accord Sport edition, a six-speed manual transmission has a classic design for custom gear combinations.

Technology

Linked to the Honda Sensing system, an electronic head-up display is installed in the 2019 Accord Touring. In addition to displaying safety alerts, the HUD shows the gear position, compass directions, GPS navigation data and tachometer readings. You'll see plenty of other settings on the Driver Information Interface in the instrument cluster. For example, the hybrid models include the EV Mode, battery charge and paddle deceleration indicators. You'll also see the status of the Ready to Drive Indicator and Power Flow Monitor. The 2019 Accord boasts various portals for smartphones and other mobile devices. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work smoothly with Bluetooth technology. Wireless connections are also available through Near Field Communication and Wi-Fi. Remote services are included in the signature HondaLink suite. Although it has great digital technology, the 2019 Camry's Entune 3.0 multimedia system falls just short of the Accord's connectivity amenities.
